I prevented a kidnapping --> rape --> murder back in 2003-2004.

I’d like to hear this story.
It's a pretty specific story, details wise, and I'd prefer to remain anonymous/private on the internet.
It wasn't a random/compulsive act. He targeted the victim, went to great lengths to plan it out, acquire what he needed to pull it off, and his execution was damn near flawless. I just happened to notice the tiniest thing - not even a mistake on his part, just a small, seemingly random thing that wasn't. (Imagine executing your plan to 99.99999999999% perfection and getting caught because of the .00000000001%.)
Nobody believed me at first, even after explaining the unassailable logic that "X couldn't have caused Y unless Z." Finally a police lieutenant overruled a sergeant and they took action. Caught the guy actually in the commission of the attempted kidnapping/sexual assault.
The evidence from the follow-on search warrant showed without a doubt he was going to kill her and dispose of the body. Think "had a hole dug and a body bag prepped" ... but it was even more detailed than that.
He was an illegal alien, had a prior history of kidnapping/aggravated sexual assault, and had been deported after a prior conviction for it. Obviously, he wasn't kept in custody by anyone.
I guess he decided having live victims wasn't a good idea and he'd start killing them instead.
It would take a couple of pages to describe how meticulous and well-thought out his plan and execution was. The guy was a 100% pro at it and had undoubtedly done it many times before. It's been 20+ years and I'm sure the detectives working the case just closed it (open and shut...easy win) and wiped their hands of it, but it would be interesting to know if DNA evidence/modern forensic science has tied him to any other open cases. (I doubt anyone has ever even looked...dude's probably outside a Home Depot this morning.)
