Whenever a literary work of the scope of Dune is translated to the silver screen, there is bound to be some condensation of the source material. That is the nature of such film adaptations.
It seemed to me the change here helped propel the narrative by highlighting the ambiguity of Paul’s own motivations. Your mileage may differ.
