Right, you can't leave out the personal attack, right?
You used the phrase "white hegemony" to describe the reaction to Obama being President, as if the rural whites you deride are part of said hegemony. The Obama's live in a mansion on Martha's Vineyard, while the factory baw in Indiana, whose wife picks up shifts at the local diner, is barely getting by. Your condescension, and those who think like you, are precisely why Trump got elected in the first place.

They are, and they fear what little security they have is being threatened. That fear is being stoked by demagogues who promise relief. It's an age-old approach to concentration of political power. Frequently employed by those who eschew traditional ideological values, and promote populism and nationalism.
But technically, the hegemony to which I refer is simply the long line of white, and with one notable exception, Protestant, men who have been president. There's no value judgement assigned, just the fact that there were only white men before Obama who held the ultimate office of power in the US.

Trump got elected
Trump was elected because of two things, the odd electoral college system that assigns the value of suffrage unequally among the People, and the fact that the Democratic nominee was hated by many party members, and simply not generally popular.
But both Clinton and Trump are criminal hucksters, imo. It's completely unbelievable to me, though, how rural conservative whites have fallen for that New York trust fund baby, who got by as a Democrat gangster real estate developer. But then I guess the glamour of the WWE kind of star struck those country sophisticates that I'm so contemptuous of.
