I saw G&R in 1992 at the assembly center. Of course they did NOLA the same year. I just think the music scene in BR fell off a cliff sometime in the early/mid 2000's for whatever reason. The Caterie fire was the nail in the coffin. I'm frankly surprised that NOLA gets skipped over by big acts now as well. This should NEVER happen in a city so dependent on tourism.
G&R / Soundgarden had to be the last major rock tour that hit the area which wasn’t an oldies act like Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Most other shows I can think of subsequent to that were club level at The Varsity, Texas Club, etc.
I am just shooting in the dark here but the lack of shows at the PMAC and Centroplex of this type could be either an issue with availability (LSU sports, other events, etc) or it could be an issue with the actual promoters.
Jimmy Kilshaw and his mother, for instance, used to run wrestling at the Centroplex for years and were notorious for not having an accurate count for tickets sold. It is a running joke for old Mid South / UWF guys, when Kilshaw is mentioned, to say what the announced attendance would always be claimed to be at those shows.
If the bands know they aren’t getting an accurate count of the gate and that the venue is subpar, they will find somewhere else.
