As part of the agreement, the Raising Canes River Center downtown could be refocused as a space mostly for conventions

This part of the article cracks me up. Yeah conventions are going to be lining up to travel to Baton Rouge for their shows . Baton Rouge isn't the easiest place to get to via plane.

BR actually gets a decent amount of conventions/conferences. I think I saw there’s something like 27 scheduled for this year.

Baton Rouge gets a lot of conventions considering the limited amount of space available and the relatively small market. They'd get even more if they can convert the old arena to a convention hall.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that the old River Center arena has been obsolete for 20 years. Their convention space is quite nice, but that was mostly built in the 1990s-2000s.

The arena is old and in really bad shape. It's worse than the PMAC IMO. They should knock down the River Center arena and expand the convention hall or build out entirely new convention spaces. They might be able to justify a hotel there too since they'd be able to get more than 1 event at a time.
