Even with the war in Ukraine, I get the sense Russia felt out the US and Western Europe first, and said "we're going to take X. And not further. So ease off the trigger, ok?"

The thought of using the bomb was to save lives. The propaganda Japan used was the Americans were evil and ate babies. If we did not use it, Japans civilians were devoted to fight to death.

The crimes the Japanese committed against prisoners of war, and the Chinese population were worse than the Germans. Japanese soldiers would play a game of throwing babies in the air and stabbing them with swords.
