i've never heard of this jacket until this thread, so i had to google. they look pretty nice. i dont think i understand the concept of a "waxed jacket", but whatever. they look cool.

that said, i bought a Carhartt from the College Station Academy in 2002 that is finally broken in, so i'm probably just going to stick with it.

the concept is they're basically waterproof and provide insulation for cold weather

It’s an antiquated water proofing technology

Most of the appeal is tradition, but they are functionally superior when it comes to moving through the woods when there’s real undergrowth. You’re not going to tear ones of these. And I’ve used one as a drop cloth when changing tire, which you wouldn’t do with a plastic jacket. It would get shredded almost immediately.
