re: Why do dealers make car buying so difficult

At my dealership, all of our prices are listed online. The Internet has really changed how you shop for a car now. You either put your best price online or you suffer from not getting enough Internet traffic that leads to people in the store. What makes it difficult is people's mindset that this is still 1995 and everything is negotiable and cash is king. If you're paying cash,I go up on price. Banks pay me a reserve to finance with them, why would I give you a better price and lose that if you're outside financing or paying cash? My rates typically always beat or match a bank's. At the end of the day, this is still not a non-profit business. People negotiate harder on their cars than they do houses.

I bet you get told to go to hell quite often.

The cash thing is 100% accurate. It amazes me that in 2024 people still think walking into a dealership and saying you’re gonna pay cash is to their advantage.
Other than the covid years with the chip shortages… everything is negotiable. Its just that the amount of flexibility to negotiate varies greatly depending on prevailing market conditions. Thats the piece people are probably pretty tone deaf of.

I thought everyone knew you don’t tell them this until the last second.
