Gafford would have been fun, but Mavs gave up a 2028 pick swap to get him. That could be a Nets-Tatum kind of blunder for them giving up picks so far in the future, when Luka may be on another team by then. Are we really sure that Pels can't get a very similar player in the draft like Yves Missi from Baylor? Who would cost around 5 mil. on a 4 year contract with more upside to grow, and still be able to have enough luxury tax room to re-sign JV or another starting C.
Teams like the Mavs and Wolves go all in with their future picks because they have a clear Alpha elite, top-10 healthy, young player in their early prime (Luka, Edwards). Clippers and Bucks, have elite top-10 alphas to contend with. Pelicans haven't had that and still don't, if we're being honest.
