And if those guys are 280, they aren't playing the defensive tackle position unless you want to lose a lot of games.

Bro what?

There’s plenty of guys that are that weight that do absolutely fine. Weight isn’t the end-all on the lines. You think Wingo was 310? Davon Godchaux came in as a freshman at 260 and ended his season being one of the better DLmen in the conference. 280 is closer to the norm these days anyway. You’ll be hard pressed to find a 320+ DT unless they’re an athletic freak of nature.

ETA: what matters far more is strength and technique. They have a great strength coach and they’re now being coached by one of the best in the game. OP is correct that LSU will be “fine” in the sense of “good enough”

We had size galore last year with Maason Smith and he did frick-all. Turns out being 6’6 320lbs didn’t mean shite if you had no technique and the scheme sucked.

Hahaha 280 is the norm for a SEC defensive tackle?

PFF

Here is an article from before last season listing the top 10 returning defensive tackles in college football. All of them are 300lb or more except for 2 which are 295 and 297.

Anyone playing inside that is 280 and going up against a decent OL doesn’t stand a chance.
