Yes, several times. Have been in 3, 2 of them weren't really strong, but 1 of them flipped our car when I was a kid.
On April 3rd, 1974, we watched the F5 that did so much damage in North Alabama, from a few miles away. That one was so wide, it didn't really look like a tornado, but you could see the debris coming up in the air around it. We knew it was very bad.
There were several more tornadoes that night that we watched. We were in a perfect location to see them, on a hill surrounded by cottonfields, at the NW corner of the Huntsville airport. We had a storm shelter there.
There was so much lightning that night, it was almost like twilight.
