Due to what, is the question.
It was harder to score because coaches had terrible offensive gameplans/schemes/philosophies.
It wasn't harder to score from defense. The defense in the 90s (80s were a fricking joke, defensively) was forced man, which led to pure iso street ball.

Before flagrants you could commit assault and it was 2 free throws. Those easy layups of today cost a bloody nose and fat lip back then.
