Has anyone watched the German movie "The Captain"?

Stumbled upon it last night. Based on a true story of a German army deserter in the last month of the way who stumbled across a captain's uniform in his quest to survive. Black and white movie. I stumbled across it last night on Amazon Prime and couldn't stop watching it.

Yes, free to watch on Amazon Prime.
Very good movie, go in watching with knowing as little as possible because it was not what I was expecting based on reading the plot - definitely wikipedia the actual story of the character after, it is quite insane.

I agree with this but then I think just by telling someone this it gives them a notion that the movie is not what you think.

I watched almost the whole movie without knowing it was a true story. When they put up a caption that a place was now a field, I was floored.
Also, the credits scene is interesting.

Is it wrong that I chuckled several times during this movie?
The credits were the icing on the cake.
This film is wonderfully absurd and I recommend to anyone that enjoys Schadenfreude.
