Many of the families you see in them are refugees who had their visas sponsored by someone here and the donut shop is a low cost/high margin business where they can maintain steady employment.

The ones around here make bank if they're open on Sunday mornings. Some churches will go buy 15-20 dozen and distribute among Sunday school classes. So you have one customer walk in and buy the same thing for the same price every week, and it is much easier than 20 people walking in and buying a half dozen or a dozen and dealing with them one at a time.
