You can go now and buy new sets that are a couple years old, Ping 425, Taylormade Sim2max etc.. for several hundred off what they were when they were new or you can buy used sets that are a couple years old. Take the savings and get lessons for him, after he shows interest and seems to be progressing with his game you can decide if you want to get him fitted for a set. Believe it or not, it does make a difference but it will cost you some serious cash. My son got fitted and his driver was $1,000 with $450 of that the shaft. I ended up spending close to $4,000 for the set he has now. Titliest TSR2 driver, and 3 wood with Ventus Blue 6S Velecore shaft, Titliest 4 hybrid with Mitsubishi Black Sshaft, Taylormade P790 with KBS C taper lite shafts, 52, 56, 60 Cleveland RTX 6 and a Scotty Cameron Putter and a new Titliest Legends bag. It's a lot of money but he play competitively in High School and in some LJGA summer tournaments and plans on playing in College. If it weren't for that, I would not have spent that kind of money on clubs, I bet I haven't spent that much money on all of the clubs I've bought for myself over the years.

My son is going to to kick footballs in the SEC and it’s a hobby that lots of kickers enjoy. He’ll get NIL money to buy a real set of clubs…but he has at least a couple of years until he has that real first fitting. He’s a Jr now.

I want to buy him a legit set of clubs…something inspiring to get him out there. I’d throw some money into a driver, but not what you have. Kicking and golf are strangely connected…like step brother sports of sorts.

I’ll check the links here and ask him to ask his friends what he should get.
