I had a similar issue with TSA in the same airport a few years ago.

I went through the scanner but there was a tiny piece of foil-lined gum wrapper, empty wrapper, in my pocket that I didn't catch. After they pulled me aside, I turned out my pockets and viola! here's the gum wrapper, that's all it is. Can I walk back through?

NO! You get the pat down and hand held bullshite scanner thing, and the pat down was about as invasive as it could be without having to be in a private room.

Total bullshite.
