My dad didn't finish 9th grade in high school. Got hired on at FDF in 1992 making $8/hr as a parts runner. After about 6 months, he was bored and they had a few trucks down so my dad asked the shop supervisor if he could work on one of the trucks. The supervisor was surprised but said, "Don't mess it up."
