According to weather data from the St. Joseph weather station, the average first freeze 5 years out of 10 (32° or lower) occurred on or before November 18 between 1981 and 2010.
From 1991 to 2020, the average date was November 16.
I guess a farmer can say what he wants, but weather don't lie.
And just for shits, from 1951 to 1980, the average date was November 7.
