You are correct. Pretty much the only way. I am on the verge of an offer right now that will range between a 57% and 100% raise over my current salary (based on the salary range for the new position). I could work in my current job for 30 more years and never touch the opening offer for the new job. There won't be any counter opportunities. It's just time to move on and do for mine.
