Sure, parenting definitely plays a part in it, but you are essentially the average of the people you hang out with. I would rather put my children in an environment where they are more likely to create long lasting friends who have parents who care about their education, and on average are more successful than those who go to public school.

I say this as someone who went to public school and has a group of successful friends, but I also realize that we are the top tier of that public school and 90% of the school are worse off than we are.
