It's really not feasible to drive 6-8 hours for a long weekend kind of trip like this, especially with kids. It sucks to spend that much time driving and such little time having fun.

Yea agree. I don't do longer than 4-5hours if driving with my kids, and thats for any vacation
. Any longer and we're flying.
