So you want to send 3 players out and get back 1, and still be a tax team that has to sign 2-3 more guys to fill out the roster, likely putting us at about $5M over the tax.
For Claxton while giving up zero players of note and one 1st? Abso-fricking-lutely I want to.

That would be as much of a YES no brainer as the OP is a NO no brainer.

And then who's minutes is Claxton taking? JV and Larry play 100% of the minutes at the 5. Which one of them are you taking minutes from?
Healthy Larry can play the 4 just fine, plus you have the ability to give more/less minutes situationally.

Just a very quick mock up, not necessarily based on what I think but a combo of what I think plus what we're actually doing currently but if Claxton were added, with the only caveat being I'd move Naji out of the rotation entirely but I know Willie wouldn't lol.

CJ - 33
Bi - 33
Herb - 27
Zion - 30
Jval - 24
Trey - 26
Jose - 16
Claxton - 21
Nance - 18
Hawk - 12

And again, the Val/Claxton/Nance minutes are more situational based on night to night matchups and foul trouble.

JV is no doubt having a great season. But I'd be lying if I didn't worry about him being played off the court in the playoffs. It will always be a big possibility when it comes to traditional bigs who has to play drop coverage to be on the floor.

Nance staying 100% healthy is probably a pipedream. The issue with Larry even if he can play through injuries is if the said injury zaps his athleticism, it makes him a liability.

I don't know what the answer is but gambling on JV/Nance will be risky in April/May.

just b/c he can doesn't mean he should.

Last year JV and Nance shared the court for 78 minutes.
We had an ORtg of 89.3, and a Drtg of 101.3, NetRtg of -12.

They've shared the court for 11 minutes this year, which really isn't enough to say anything, but the ORtg was 31.8, DRtg was 136.4.

We just played the only team in the NBA you would think you would need two bigs to defend in Minny, and JV and Larry didn't play together at all. Do It Big is dumb.

Larry Nance Jr is not a 4, and neither is Claxton.
We have an all nba talent at the 4 in Zion, and Trey should have all of the back up 4 minutes, on top of playing the 3 as well. The only reason to ever have Trey not get all of those minutes at the 4 is if he plays all his minutes at the 3 and we find a backup 4 who can shoot, like Grant Williams or Naz Reid or more attainable Dario Saric

It would be beyond dumb to have a lineup with 2 of JV/Larry/Claxton on the court, b/c none of them can shoot.

I"m not saying i wouldn't want Claxton, but you bring him in one of JV or Larry should go, and i just don't see the point in that right now.
I'd rather keep both of them, even going into next year (although we'll see what happens in teh playoffs) and draft a young big.
