I think the Bears ultimately move on from JF and take Caleb. However, there are legitimate reasons why you keep Fields. If you strictly just look at box score evaluations and PFT rankings you’re not going to see the bigger picture with him.

Fields has elite play making ability. Like on the same level as Mahomes and Allen. He makes plays that make you say “woah”. He made a few throws on Sunday, in bad weather, that only a few other players can make. He escaped a long run from a sack that only he can make. His teammates LOVE him, the fans LOVE him, and he's a great leader.

Fields has been dealt very shitty cards over 3 years. His first year he had a lame duck HC, and his second year was a total rebuild. It’s not fair to give an honest evaluation of his first two years. DJ Moore is the first legit weapon he’s had and DJ has had a career best season in virtually every metric. Now imagine you give him MHJ too and a frick ton of draft capital.

But the reality is, JF has been too inconsistent. He still struggles to read the field, he takes too many sacks, he plays reckless at times. And I think ultimately Caleb or Maye offer too good of an opportunity to pass up to reset the contract cycle.

But let’s not act like JF doesn’t still ooze potential. QB development is not linear and he’s shown unbelievable flashes.

Whether fair or not, it feels a bit like he’s playing for his job Sunday. If he replicates his performance from this past week, I think he’s back and they try to get the Pats/Commanders in a bidding war and take MHJ at 2/3. If his performance is closer to the Cleveland game, I think they move on.

I basically agree with your entire opinion. If only Justin showed more consistency this year as a passer the decision would be pretty easy. Also, he misses a handful of games each year due to injury so you have to understand that part.

Overall I think the Bears hype will be huge this summer after all the dust settles.
