Can LSU compete in NIL??

I’m so tired of people acting like LSU doesn’t have money to spend on recruits in the era of NIL. Last I checked we were a top 5-10 program in terms of revenue and just signed our coach to one of the biggest contracts in CFB history. We literally took CBK from “blue blood” Norte Dame. Take some time to look into TAF’s balance sheet. I think people are confusing academic endowments with money that can be thrown around at hs recruits. Academic endowments are money/grants pledged to the University for specific purposes within ACADEMICS, not football. If it were all about who has the most billionaires/ largest endowments Harvard would win the CFP every year. Sure, it doesn’t hurt to have a couple billionaire donors throwing money at the program, but the spending were currently seeing is not sustainable. People also forget the value that the LSU brand brings to the table. A hs kid can come to LSU and become a national brand in ways that they can’t at other programs. Look at Burrow, Daniels, even Livy Dunne, etc. In conclusion quit the woe is me bullshite. Just because the state of Louisiana is “broke” doesn’t make the football program broke. In fact one can argue that sometimes the brokest states produce the most lucrative programs.

Under what few rules they have for NIL, TAF money could not be used for NIL purposes, as I understand it. That money would need to be rerouted to LSU's collective instead of going to TAF, I think. And I don't think TAF can give them money.

Too many people mistake not playing the game for not being able to play the game.
We've beat out a lot of schools for a lot of players. Ones that are known to break bank such as Georgia, Texas A&M, Texas, etc.
It seems to me that LSU has a very deliberate method on how they are proceeding. At the end of the day, you have to have the right mix, plus kids who actually want to come to the school and buy into development and the vision of the coaches. If not you end up like Texas A&M with a group of hired mercenaries out for there's.
Just my 2 cents.

to LSU's collective instead
Are collectives even allowed? You still cannot outright pay a kid to come to your school. They can sell their NIL, but cannot be given cash inducements to attend a particular university.
A "collective" to me seems like a pool of money used to pay players to attend your school, which by NCAA rules, is still a no-no.

My fault, replace Harvard with A&M

Great post, and I agree.
Kelly seems like he isn't going to play the game of a kid wanting to go to the highest bidder. We won't consistently get into that pissing match. Instead it is come to LSU and develop your brand. Kids have gotten paid the correct way at LSU doing this. We have seen examples of what just buying a team does with aTm. A lot of them ending up leaving anyway.
I believe Kelly has the right idea for long term success. It's tough when you are stuck on the outside watching Ole Miss right now, wishing it could be us. But Kelly needs to prove he can develop and win this way.

according to some rantards, we’re in poverty and can’t compete with the Texas’ and Miami’s of the world so time to start begging
maybe Shaq for a generous donation to Bayou Traditions? Maybe Burrow can cut a tiny piece of his 275m contract?

Some kids who want to go to the highest bidder, you just pass on. Remember, A&M has had some of the best recruiting since NIL became a thing. They all just seem to be mercenaries.

Collectives are just that in reality, but they accomplish this by acting as a clearing house for NIL opportunities which can simply be autograph signing sessions. They are independent of the school, technically. And unlike TAF, they are not involved in things like paying coaches and ticket sales.
At least that is my understanding, there are probably people here who can better explain it than I can.

If they get the right guy to run Bayou Traditions they can absolutely compete. Right now the running ain’t it! J.A.

Todd Graves is the richest person with any ties to LSU to my knowledge.
