This is my exact situation. I'm hopeful that my two kids will get into golf and make a private club a worthy investment so I can bring them to the course

Then they obviously become the next Tiger Woods

When my kids were little, I had a “social” membership that included 16 rounds(or 32 nines).

I never got through 16 rounds in a given year. Never practiced.
I enjoyed spending time with the kids, but neither of them got into golf so I did not get back into until they were almost grown.

Golf requires time, money, and health.
Rare to have all three.
