That's exactly what I've done. I also have backups in the same caliber (i.e. my large caliber bolt gun is a 308, and the M1 Garand I shoot a lot is barreled for 308 also).

Generally can find all of that on the shelf locally, at prices 20% or so higher than online, except for 308. For whatever reason, I can't find any 308 or 7.62x51 locally for less than $1.25 per round, even for cheap plinking ammo.
