If China attacked some coastal town and the marines and some hostages were accidentally killed while trying to take out the attackers I wouldn’t blame the marines

They were literally holding a white flag. It's our duty to hold our government accountable to just war doctrine and international standards. This would not be okay and if American marines did this they should be tried in a military tribunal and held accountable for their malicious lack of discernment.

A good example is Pat Tillman, and the public reaction to the facts surrounding his death by friendly fire. And that was far more defensible than what we're discussing here with Israeli hostages.
