I remember once there was an old golf cart in the woods near our house and me and a friend thought we could modify it into a go kart. We hooked a trailer to the 4 wheeler and went and got the thing out of the woods, then walked to the farm shop and got the service truck with a torch and welder on the bed. I had an old go kart with a good engine but the frame had broken. Took the gas engine off, torched up the golf cart and removed the batteries and electric motor and were trying to install the gas engine behind the seat. My dad came home from work to 13 year old me running the welder on the service truck trying to weld a giant steel homemade bumper to this old golf cart. I got a “what the frick do you think you’re doing” from him

If he was like most Dad's in the day he would have then seen what you were doing and showed you how and make some bad arse modifications before going in and drinking a beer LOL.

Not playing but when I was 7 years old my 2 sisters and I lived with our Dad while our Mama was out "finding herself" (As far as I know she has been looking for the last 60 years LOL). Anyhow we lived in a single wide trailer that was not skirted and had concrete blocks stacked up for entry at the front door, nothing at the back door. It was what one might call not a pretty home. My dad worked about 4 hours away and stayed gone from Monday Morning around 230 AM until Friday Night at around 730 PM. My 13 year old sister was in charge.

Apparently Daddy forgot to pay the light bill of just did not pay it. The power company came out and put a boot on the meter while we were at school on Monday. When we got home it was colder than a well diggers arse and Daddy was 4 hours away and we did not have a phone and would not have known where to call if we did. I had seen Daddy do it before so I went to the meter, cut the tab off the base, removed the meter, took off the boot and reinstalled the meter. Wallah....we had power again. Until Tuesday. They came back on Tuesday and took the meter. No problem, I had seen Daddy fix that also...I took a piece of 12/2 romex, skint out enough of it to jump the meter base, and plugged in the house...did not know enough to turn off the main. had a pretty good arc. They did it again Wednesday and when I fixed it again they came out Thursday and removed the line side conductors....I couldn't fix that at 7.

Friday night Daddy comes in and its pitch black...and withing 30 minutes of his arrival the sherrif is there arresting him for stealing power LOL...he had to take the charge because it would have been child neglect for certain had he not. Fince him about $50 and he was home before midnight. I was terrified I was going to get my arse whupped...instead he told me how proud he was that I had taken care of my sisters LOL. I could have easily been killed but the lord looks out for idiots and children, especially idiot children.

If someone did what my Dad did to provide for us the county would step in and destroy everyone's life today. As it turns out we all survived fine....
