quote:Actually Nebraska was 1 and FSU was 2, and the rankings were determined by total points in the two major polls. It isn’t like someone or a small group of people assigned those specific rankings.
And yet, when the final Bowl Coalition rankings were released in 1993, this is how everything shook out:
1. Florida State (11-1)
2. Nebraska (11-0)
3. West Virginia (11-0)
4. Notre Dame (10-1)
Florida State was 3rd in the coaches poll and first in the AP, Nebraska was 1 and 2, West Virginia was 2 and 3. So you have the AP poll to thank for FSU getting in that year.

Actually, you have the organizers of the Orange Bowl to thank for that because it was the bowls themselves who still determined the match-ups, not computers or voters or a Committee. And this is why they did it:
quote:
Undefeated Nebraska was assured of a spot in the national championship game. The organizers chose Florida State as the Cornhuskers' Orange Bowl opponent, feeling that the Seminoles’ pattern of dominant victories outweighed Notre Dame's head-to-head win and West Virginia's undefeated record. (Florida State had easily beaten Miami and Maryland, two teams which the Mountaineers struggled to beat.)
