I'm old enough to vividly remember how potent the 2000 FSU offense was with Chris Weinke, Anquan Boldin, Travis Minor, and a bunch of future NFL talent. Before the national championship game, they stomped a #4 ranked Florida 30-7.

Thus, they were a 12 point favorite against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, and everyone was bummed that the national championship game seemed to be a foregone conclusion. But Oklahoma was undefeated, even though there were lots of complaints that Miami, Washington, and other one loss teams would be better.

Oklahoma's defense was spectacular, though, and they held FSU to 2 freaking points.

It's absolutely disgraceful that this FSU team didn't get a similar opportunity. If anything, stout defenses are even more important - and rare - today.
