To add on to this..
Kirby Smart had UGA in the national championship in Y2 but didn't win it all until Y6.
2024 doesn't feel like a national championship season with all of the uncertainties. Losing a Heisman candidate, losing Malik and BT and having such a shitty defense with and adding a new DC.
2025 we'll lose our dominant OL and QB will be most likely be a first year starter assuming Nuss shows enough to go to the NFL.
It feels like 2026 will be the first year we should actually be in a position to compete for a natty.

Here in lies the problem. Unless you are able to recruit on the level of teams like UGA, Bama or Ohio St; there's always going to be the "breaking in new starters, lack of depth or talent/skill limitations at some positions" issue.
You keep hoping for that right window where you have both talent and experience and the depth to mitigate injuries to make a run. We hit that in 2019 when we returned the QB, skill players had an experienced OL and a talented defense. This season we had that on offense, but not on D. Next year we have talent, but lack of experience at the skill positions on offense and a questionable D.
Until we can recruit top talent consistently, we'll keep chasing the window.
