Why was it held in Garyville? Halfway between LSU and Tulane?

Because two locals in Garyville made a bet between themselves and it was an event from that date. Also had an event in local gymnasium selling food, drinks & snacks after the parade. Best days.

Because a couple organizers were Tulane grads form Garyville, a couple others had family that played for LSU.. A couple of the first riders/organizers as I remember were a couple teachers, one principal of the nearest HS, Leon Godchaux was a rider/pusher. One wheelbarrow that made me laugh had a chicken wire skirt wrapped around the front, decorate one side for Tulane the other LSU. If the guy pushing raised the wheelbarrow too high the wire dragged under the wheel to intentionally act as a brake. Watching him have to push that thing without being able to fully stand up was a site.
