NO NO Johnny Hector had nothing to do with the rivalry between LSU and A&M getting heated. A&M had a history of getting good football players from South La before Johnny ....Dwight Labauve from New Iberia and Ross Brupbacher from Lafayette where both recruited by LSU and ended up in Aggieland. I've know Johnny since we where 10 yr old and playing PeeWee Football in New Iberia. Johnny committed to LSU in the early signing period which was in Sept before the formal National signing day in April....early signing didn't bind a player to any school..Johnny took his recruiting visits after our season ... 1st to Oklahoma where he was introduced to 10 RB on scholarship...then his next visit was Texas which he liked a lot except for Austin was a big city and lastly he went to A&M which was a small town compared to Austin..he liked that about College Station...Fred Akers HC at Texas will say to this day that A&M used the race card on Johnny about a lack of black football players . But LSU screwed da pooch...namely one dentist by the name of Curtis Roy in Lafayette took it upon himself to make a series of threatening phone calls to the Hector household. Saying that if Johnny didn't sign a national letter of intent to attend LSU then Johnny's brother would be sent back to prison. Johnny's brother was on parole for a manslaughter conviction. Was him signing with LSU in Sept reason brother got paroled?...ask parole board...I do know that these calls where traced back to Dr. Roy by the FBI and absolutely the reason Johnny decided to go to A&M! BTW Johnny played 11 yrs for Jets...has 1870 touches ...running, receiving and kickoff returns....he fumbled 1 time...and he also suffered from sickle cell trait...which prevented him from ever becoming a featured back in college and the NFL. Johnny going to A&M didn't fuel the rivalry nearly as much as Billy Cannon going to A&M!
