I’ve struggled with PTSD for years. It’s really hard to talk about because you don’t WANT to talk about/ re-live it.
Sounds like your son is having night terrors and I wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy.
During therapy I learned that the horrible nightmares I was having were actually called night terrors and, thankfully, there was a medication for it.
Prazosin was like a miracle drug for me and night terrors. Maybe this would help him?
There is a type of therapy for PTSD that’s called EMDR and it’s effective in my experience- the problem is finding a clinician that specializes in it.
I just said a prayer for your son. My heart goes out to him. It will never go away but it’s not as bad now as it was 23 years ago.

I know of several people that have successfully done EMDR therapy to treat trauma. It’s very important to do the proper work beforehand for it to have the desired effect, though. A therapist that specializes in the treatment is absolutely necessary.
