No, not really. It was just a practical reality of our particular situation. I was 27 when we met. I knew what I was looking for. I didn't need a year of dating to decide she was what I wanted. I imagine even if I had met someone living a mile away that I could see every day, it still wouldn't have taken me more than six months to decide she was "the one," or not.
My great-grandfather met my great-grandmother on a train from Abita Springs to New Orleans on a Monday morning when my great-grandmother was traveling into town to work at a textile mill for the week. He waited for her at the Abita Springs station on Friday afternoon when she was going home for the weekend and proposed. Six months later they stayed married for 57 years until he died.
We overcomplicate life in our modern world.
