I've had 2. First one I had was very unpleasant but somehow I made it through. So the second time I opted for benzos and it was much better. I think the benzos definitely helped but the second machine was also much quieter and more comfortable

It helps to ask the tech share how long each scan is and then count the seconds in my head. First scan might be 1:30 so I count to 90 and it's often over before I get to the time. Then they'll tell me the next time, etc. Helps because a lot of the frustration is not knowing how long you've been in and how much longer you have, and the counting helps mind focus on something other than discomfort.
