Best version of this I’ve heard is about Einstein taking a train and not being able to find it when the ticket taker came by, getting upset.

The ticket taker told him that he knew who he was and Einstein responded “No, I’m upset because that was telling me where I’m going.”

Being incredibly smart and being scatterbrained can go together.
