Because every time they try to lift it, Hamas tries to smuggle in weapons and tunnel-building equipment. Even humanitarian aid allowed through ends up in the hands of Hamas, who hoards much of it.

Don't want to be blockaded? Stop sending missiles over the wall. It's no more complicated than that.

Also, part of the "blockade" has been Egypt's locking down of its borders with Gaza. No one mentions that though because it doesn't fit in with the "evil Jews" narrative.
