Kelly is the one who said this team was a year away. As things stand, they will be significantly further away next year than this year and with the trend moving downward.
His recruiting has not been awful, but underwhelming based on filling needs. He has failed to fill huge gaps in his team with failed HS recruiting at key positions. He has missed on transfers to fill the holes as well and built no long term foundation.
If anyone is to blame for the overblown expectations it was the approach Kelly took last year with trying to win quickly.
Chizik won a National title too early, right? It out unfair expectations on him.
In the end, if fans saw a foundation being built and not losing out on significant Louisiana talent at times, then you have a point.
In the end, Kelly took a shortcut to early success and it will likely lead to a delay in building a foundation, and squandered the benefits of last year’s division title.
