The opposite.
For the past 6 months I 've been coming to work an hour early. I can get a barge load of work done before most people show up.
Last week the boss dropped on me and put me on blast that no one was to show up at work before the official start time (7AM). Here I was thinking that I was doing something productive for the company only to get a boot to the face.
No good deed goes unpunished.

I will bet you that ignorant motherfricker has said something to the effect that "if you ain't 5 minutes early you are 15 minutes late" in their life. They are not interested in production and making money, they are interested in controlling people and their own egos. I'd start a job search if you ain't already...your incentive will be appreciated somewhere...

Only reason I can think of is if you are leaving an hour earlier than everyone else because you came in earlier.
That makes it an issue in some workplaces.
