The most surprising thing here is that Ed was aware enough to even notice
O was incapable of running a program, as he demonstrated at Ole Miss (and by running LSU into the ground).

But he was a defensive guy who'd been around the game for decades. He might not be the best at planning and scheming, but if the opposing defense "guesses right" and runs the perfect counter to an offense for 10 plays in a row, he's gonna notice that.

There's scouting and picking up tendencies, and then there's "man, those guys are in our huddle".

I can't say I've done the film room work to pick it up, but I would bet it's stuff like linebackers shifting pre-snap to stand and wait for a run, or drifting back to take away a crossing route; safeties coming in or going back "randomly, just happening" to be in perfect position for the WR's routes etc.
