Not in freight service, which is the majority in the US. Diesel-electric trains have no peer when it comes to hauling stuff and as far as reliability, average diesel unit lasts around 25 years in service.

Which was exactly my point, there is no reason to try to build in lower reliability and increase costs when EMD's do the job as it is.
