Went to Fairbanks one January for a few days but never got to see the northern lights because it was cloudy the entire time. The sun never rose above the horizon while I was there.
It was cold, coldest I’ve ever experienced -25.
Driving wasn’t bad they keep the roads clear.

Driving in the interior is very easy in winter, snow is so dry that its not much different than pavement.
Chena Hot Springs is set up for Aurora viewing, also has dog sledding, snow machining, etc.
Auorora Forecast.
About 60 miles NE of Fairbanks in the hills. Lots of Asians go there.
