You really shouldn't have stopped educating yourself about the nazis after you learned what the name stands for. I'll fill you in on some missed details.

In 1934 Hitler had all the left wing leaders of the party murdered. Most prominently, Ernst Rohm, who espoused the idea of a "2nd revolution" in Germany which would involve the overthrow of the wealthy class and redistributing their wealth among the working class. The almost dead Hindenburg did not like this, Hitler did not like this, and neither did Germany's upper class, so Hindenburg basically said hey Hitler, you gotta solve this problem or I'm gonna declare martial law and have the army take over the government which at that point was pretty much the only way Hitler could lose power. Also murdered was Gregor Strasser, a prominent early left wing leader in the party. Also murdered were other high ranking members of Rohms SA - aka the storm troopers, whose membership was mostly working class socialists - and subsequently the SA was downsized and placed under the command of the regular army. By the time WW II broke out in Europe, the SA was insignificant compared to the SS.

This was part of the "Night of the Long Knives" which also included the murder of previous leaders of the Weimar Republic and whoever Hitler thought would get in his way. Then he had most of the people he got to do the murdering sent to prison, though they weren't life ending terms we're talking a couple years. It was a super important event for him, as it firmly solidified his power as dictator.

So when I say "nazis", I'm talking about Hitler's nazis, not the socialist nazis he had murdered.

You’re making friends I see.

On topic: it’s sad karma. Nothing to celebrate in the least, but it is a cold dose of reality.
