We took the ferry from Anacortes to Orcas Island last month. First time riding a ferry. I really enjoyed it. Was hoping to see a whale, but we did not. Did see some dolphins (porpoises?) and seals.
We also visited Port Townsend, and I agree, lovely little town. The Olympic Peninsula is incredible. Camped two nights in the forest around Forks. I absolutely love the rain forest there. The green moss that covers everything, the mushrooms, the giant trees, and undergrowth of ferns and decaying trees.
Deception Pass was cool. Saw a seal there playing/hunting in the current under the bridge.

Fun fact: there are no venomous snakes on the Olympic Peninsula.
