re: Small towns where it's cool in summer and cheap to rent (ideas?)

I lived in Denver for a year. Afternoons can be toasty but it drops substantially come 5-530. Mornings are awesome to run or bike. Smaller towns west of Denver (up in the Rocky Mountains) that would be good.
