I used to be a firefighter, but I can only think of one instance where I may have saved someone from imminent, sure death. Pulled an old guy out of his house. He was in and out of consciousness while I carried him to a gurney and sent him to the hospital in an ambulance. I called the next morning to check on him, and he did make it. I was proud of the work I did that day.
I've seen and worked on many others that may have lived due to us being there, but he is the only one that I know for sure would have died had I not found him when I did. And it was just pure dumb luck that I happened to come across him because we were told no one was in the house and I was the first one in. Any of the other guys would have done the same thing if they were first.
