Eotech customer service; good experience

Bought a EOTECH 511 in 2008. The alkaline N cell batteries corroded a year or so ago, and it quit working. I saw online that this is a common problem that can usually be fixed with alcohol cleaning of the contacts or installing a $12 Battery Contact Replacement Kit. The rubber rings around the contacts in my battery compartment were also a mess, but the website did not list a replacement battery compartment for the old 511.
Called customer service and, after a long wait, got a nice guy. He said they no longer offer the battery compartment for the 511, which was discontinued in 2009, but he said they may have an old used one around somewhere. He took my address, didn't ask for any payment, and said to watch the mail in case he could find one.
A couple weeks later an envelope showed up with a used battery compartment and a new battery contact replacement kit. No charge.
I swapped out the battery compartment first, and that fixed it without having to use the kit.
The guy said that many customers in a similar situation take advantage of a deal that gets you 50% off of a new item. Reasonable offer, but I'm going to stick with my 15 year old "free" one.
I know they had some issues in the past, but they have at least one good guy working there.

I sold my EOTechs on eBay. During the course of my owning them I had to deal with their customer service a couple of times, once in person in Ann Arbor.
They are decent to deal with ... Midwesterners.
I got tired of having to replace batteries - same reason I dumped my Suunto stuff. I just like my ACOGS and Romeos and Holosuns better, by far.
Back in the day though, the 511s were the bomb.

The 512 can go 2500 hours now on 2 AA batteries. And I just can't go back to the more limited FOV on an ACOG or Aimpoint.

I just bought a Romeo for a different rifle. I like the Eotech reticle better than the Romeo's simple dot, but you can't beat the Romeo price. And the Romeo's motion-activated instant-on feature is very nice.
