My dad was at Iwo Jima and the only thing he would say when we boys would ask was how badly he wanted some ice water and how bad the sulfur smell was.
If he fell asleep watching tv I would go wake him and he would scare me to death. He would jump up like he was holding a rifle.
I finally mentioned it to him and he replied, " when you are asleep in a hole and someone wakes you, you come up shooting"
This was many years after WWII.

I just finished watching BoB for the first time. What an incredible series, so well done. I can't even imagine the things these men went through. Emotions all over the place watching this. That part where they come upon the concentration camp was intense. But I loved the last one with the baseball scene and the telling of the lives after the war. Then the interviews of the real men. I'm not crying, you're crying.
