There's a huge amount of information that is easily obtainable to support or refute just about anything you want to support or refute.
The question is which of it is reliable information.
People without medical degrees cannot be expected to sift through that information and know better than someone who does. That's not the standard we use with just about any medical procedure.
The standard we use is that it is the medical provider's responsibility as someone who literally holds a patient's life and/or health in his or her hands to provide accurate, clear, and complete information to the patient so that he or she can make an informed decision. Anything less is medical fraud.
I have no problem with "eff the parents" if the practitioners had told them about all of the side-effects, told them that the girl would likely outgrow the angst, and hadn't used the old, "Would you rather have a live son or a dead daughter?" line. If that's the way it had gone down, fine, no problem, they knew what they were signing up for.
But when you hide or skew the information and intentionally bully the parents into doing this, sorry, but you have crossed an ethical line.
Trust me, you don't want to take away all responsibility for doctors to handle patient communication correctly and ethically.
Good points. I bet the pro-transitioning website created by the medical field and federal govt probably make it all look like rainbows and happiness to transition... lies.
Trust me, I'm not looking at this as all black and white. There's plenty of gray area. I agree.
